Private Sector Preparedness Program

PS-Prep

The private sector manages approximately 80% of the key infrastructure vital to the economy and well-being of the United States. But because a large majority of organizations neither prepares for business distruption nor continually reviews and mainatins disaster recovery strategies, they are at significant risk of business continuity issues during an emergency. Even organizations that have prepared may not have comprehensive plans for sustaining all their critical operating components.

PS-PrepTM (Private Sector Preparedness Program) is a collaboration between the Department of Homeland Security and the private sector. Based on recommendations by the 9/11 Commission, it is intended to promote readiness and to encourage the creation of management plans so that private-sector organizations can continue to function in the event of a disaster or national emergency. Certification to PS-Prep assures stakeholders that organizations have assessed risks, determined business impacts, developed and tested applicable plans and controls, and actively review, evaluate and improve their organizational preparedness systems.
