TL 9000 R5.0 Update
by Tim Woodcome
The TL 9000 standard has recently undergone a revision. In this revision, only the Requirements handbook was updated; the new version is titled Requirements Release 5.0. The Measurements handbook was unchanged at this time, and remains at Release 4.0.
Three overarching topics provide the major themes for this revision:
- Risk Management
- Supply Chain Management
- Sustainability
More specifically, TL 9000 Requirements R5.0 includes:
- All ISO 9001:2008 changes
- 2 new Requirements
- 7.3.1.C.4 - Risk Management
- 7.4.1.C.2 - Supplier Performance Management
- Several new Notes
- Several expanded Requirement sections
- Several re-worded/clarified Requirement sections
NQA is producing a Quick Reference Guide and detailed Change Matrix to assist clients needing to implement this transition. These documents will be sent to all NQA TL 900 Clients and will also be available on the NQA, USA website. (Additional information on the ISO 9001:2008 changes can be reviewed in the ISO 9001:2008 Update in this newsletter.)
Additionally, QuEST Forum has developed an e-learning session on the R5.0 deltas. While this session is required for all certification body auditors, it may also be useful to TL-registered organizations.
In regards to the transition for organizations currently certified (or considering certification), the TL 9000 R5.0 roll-out timeframe is as follows:
- TL 9000 Requirements R5.0 released
- TL 9000 Requirements R5.0 becomes effective November 15, 2009
- Audits may begin to R5.0
- TL 9000 Requirements R4.0 becomes obsolete November 15, 2010
- All TL 9000 audits must be to R5.0
Direct communications will be forthcoming to all NQA TL 9000 clients to help facilitate these changes and arrange for transition audits. However, any interim questions can be directed to TL 9000 Program Manager, Timothy Woodcome at twoodcome@nqa-usa.com.
